To explain the Big Bang model and the evidence that supports it, including red-shift and background radiation.

What you will learn

What the Big Bang model describes

Why the Universe began in a hot, dense state

How the Universe has expanded over time

How galaxy red-shift supports the model

Why scientific models depend on observational evidence
Explanation
The Big Bang model describes the universe evolving from an earlier hotter, denser state. Galaxy red-shifts and the distance–recession relationship provide evidence that space is expanding. Extrapolating expansion backwards supports the earlier dense state, while new observations can refine the model; evidence for the broad model does not answer every question about the universe’s origin. Example: State one observation supporting expansion. Red-shift in most distant galaxies. Justify your answer.
