Explanation
Sloping sections of a temperature–time graph show temperature changes within a state. Horizontal sections show a change of state at constant temperature for a pure substance at fixed pressure. Energy is still transferred during a plateau; particle potential energy changes while average kinetic energy stays approximately constant. Example: Explain why a steeper heating slope can occur for a lower c at equal mass and power. Each joule produces a larger temperature rise. Distinguish the quantities.
