How to connect a voltmeter in parallel

Explanation

Circuit symbols represent components and their connections rather than their physical appearance. A complete conducting path and a source of potential difference are needed for a steady current. Connect an ammeter in series and a voltmeter in parallel across the component being measured. Example: Explain why opening a switch stops current. It breaks the complete conducting path. Distinguish the observation from the explanation, and support any judgement with evidence. Distinguish the quantities.
